My Fitness Journey

Imagine your weight at an all-time high, with your emotional state at an all-time low! This was my reality five years, two kids, and some odd forty-three pounds ago. I became a shell of my former self, spiritually broken and lost. In a world with an abundance of choices I was left with only two: continue to allow my body to spiral out of control, or rebuild an even better existence from what I once knew. I chose the latter, and through faith, family, and friendships I climbed out of my excuses and sprung into action.

My lens was squarely focused on setting a healthy example for my children, and ultimately preserving my life. I conducted research to find a diet, which would generate immediate results; however, I quickly learned fad dieting wasn’t the solution to my problem, and that there’s so much more to losing weight than simply fitting into an old pair of Capri’s. It takes planning, goal setting, hard work, and believe it or not, an extreme level of dedication! I’ll never again underestimate the amount of effort it takes to make a lifestyle change, and I’ve since taken on the approach of the tortoise and not the hare! Taking no shortcuts, making no excuses while moving slow and steady!

I took my time and stayed consistently on my grind, by eating five meals (three full with two additional snacks) daily, and exercising five days a week to include: weightlifting and cardiovascular endurance. My determination paid off tremendously, and I couldn’t be happier, not only with my results, but also with what my results represent. The tireless efforts of every woman who seeks to overcome her personal hurdles, only to discover her majesty! Make moves that make a difference!

  2. You have truly inspired me to get my butt into gear. I have been struggling to maintain a healthy lifestyle and get back into shape after the birth of my third child 5 years ago!! Being a former college athlete I know how much hard work it takes to get your body in shape and I guess I was just always looking for the easy way out. Well, I've realized that there is no easy way. It takes discipline and determination and a lot of prayer :) THANK YOU for being my inspiration. 15 more lbs to go.

  3. Thanks for posting what you eat. I've gotten so many ideas on what to eat and it doesn't look exotic or hard to prepare at all. Looking over your meals, the foods you prepare are what my kids love so it won't even seem like there is a drastic change. Please keep doing what you're doing. Your blog is inspiring, down to earth and you look amazing.

  4. You are so inspirational. I have enjoyed reading your journey and scanning thru your blog. I have a question for you, when you first began your journey, did you use any tools that you found useful and do you journal and count calories, fat, protein and carbs? I've been on this journey for a very long time. I have recently became very focused on exercising 5x a week and trying to eat within my calories as well as using My Fitness Pal to keep my daily intake. I was focused and doing this for about 3 months, didn't really see a lost, but saw a change in my body and how I felt. I've hit a slump and trying my best to get out of it.. but I can't seem to pull myself out. Any tips you would like to share?

  5. I know I am a late comer to you blog. I am truly inspired and am in the same position you were when you realized you have to make a change. I know you did it the slow and steady way, which is what I am realizing I must commit to in order to get lasting results. I must make the lifestyle change, not just physically, the extra pounds weighs heavily in all aspects, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, so I realize I am in this for the long haul, instead of an right now in the moment, quick weight loss. How long did it take you to lose the 43+ pounds?

  6. I am also glad I found you, but I need help. I have been on numerous diets. I am currently trying to change my lifestyle but I am having a hard time. I don't know exactly how much I need or want to lose but I am starting with a goal of losing 60 lbs. Your story is definitely inspirational, as I am also looking to be an example to my children and live a healthier life.
