Weekend Recap: Celebrating Academics

Suana time.

Started the weekend right with a post exercise treat in the sauna. I usually go in for 15 minute increments, then allow myself a 5 minute cool down before completing another 15 minutes. It all depends on how much time I have to spare. On most days 10 to 15 minutes is all I need. It helps to relax the muscles, revitalize the skin, improve blood circulation, and ease mental stress.

Do you use the steam room?

Hubby and I headed over to the elementary school for our youngest son's Honors Assembly. He made honor roll and was being recognized for his achievements. My oldest son also made honor roll after a challenging start to the school year. We are so proud of both of them. I wanted to celebrate their accomplishments by taking them to dinner of their choice and a movie.

Yay for coupons.

I received my Vitamin Shoppe rewards coupon today in the mail. It was a pleasant surprise because I had completely forgotten all about it when I signed up a year ago. All the money I had spent on supplements during competition prep paid off in the form of $25 big ones. Lol! I'll take it. I decided to use it on vitamins and few other things.

While in the store the associate informed me that customers no longer have to wait until the end of the year to receive their awards because now they'll be giving them quarterly. If you're a healthy awards member be on the look out for your first award April 2016. How nice is that?

Vitamin C and Probiotics.

I decided to give probiotics a try again. I've used many different brands in the past to no avail. After researching whats out on todays market I decided on the Vitamin Shoppe brand.  The reviews on it have been good so far. I have digestive issues so I am hoping this helps. I'll report back in a month or so on my experience with them.

Does anyone else suffer from digestive issues? If so what do you use/or do to help?

I stopped by Walgreens to pick up more hair, skin and nail vitamins. They are currently running a buy 1 get, one free sale on all Nature's Bounty brand vitamins (prices good through the 23 of Jan). I love Nature's Bounty and have used their products for years. I was able to use my $2.00 off coupon and 15% military discount (check your local Walgreens for details). Score!!! I'm not an extreme couponer, but I do cut them when I get them in the paper. Every bit of savings helps.

Dressing room selfies.

I know I'm not the only one who takes them. lol. When the lighting is right one must take advantage. I was trying on some sports bras and active pants that were on sale.

Active wear section at Target.

I got this cute colorful champion sports bra for $5 on sale. It's super comfortable. This will be my 3rd champion sports bra that I've purchased in the last year. They fit well, they're durable, stylish and affordable. I've seen them in a number of stores from Target, to TJ Maxx, Dicks, Kohls, etc.

Hair care at Target.

I spotted a new product by Kinky~Curly while browsing the haircare section. I debated on whether to buy it after reading some not so favorable reviews. It's called Stellar Strands hydrating deep treatment. I absolutely love the Kinky Curly Knot Today leave-in conditioner. It's been a staple since I cut off my relaxed hair back in 2008. I figure this product has to be good at least I hope so. I plan to use it for a month that way I can give it a solid review. Stay tuned for that.

Hydrating Deep Treatment.

The product comes in an 8oz bottle. Enriched with Macadamia and Argan Oil, this deep hydrating intense treatment will take your curls from status quo to stellar.

When used regularly Stellar Strands will:
  • Rejuvenate and moisturize dry, brittle hair
  • Strengthen weak strands
  • Improve elasticity and reduce breakage
  • Maintain your hair’s natural shine, silkiness & softness

Has anyone used this product before?

I passed this cute end cap on my way out the store.

Hotel Transylvania 2.

We decided to rent a movie instead of going to the theatres. Hotel Transylvania 2 was out so we picked that one up. It was cute and funny. Definitely worth renting for a family night in.

Kale and Collards.

I woke up early Saturday to prep my collards and kale for dinner later on. I know many people only eat collards around the Holidays, but why wait for a special occasion. At just $0.69 cent a bundle you can have them for lunch or dinner and you're not breaking the bank. They're easy to cook and rich in vitamins and nutrients. I'll be preparing them with lemon and herb fish later today.

I'm obsessed with cardigans right now! I grabbed these two cute cardigans for under $10 dollars each from Aeropostale. They have great sale going on now. They also give Military discount. Yay!

Lauren Conrad tights for at Kohls for $9.99. I purchased a black pair before Christmas. They're very comfortable and perfect for layering.

The kale/collard mix came out so tender and flavorful. I paired it with baked lemon and herb tilapia.

Ground chicken and veggies.

I started Sunday morning out meal prepping. I made ground chicken with onions and green peppers using the same style of cooking as I do here. I paired 4 oz of meat with 4 oz of sweet potatoes. This will be my lunch for 3 days out of this week.

Stuffed peppers prep.

Ground turkey.

I used 93% ground turkey, mushrooms, onions, garlic and Muir Glen tomato sauce for my stuffed peppers sauce. I later added steamed jasmine rice to the sauce before stuffing the peppers.

Stuffed Peppers.

Stuffed pepper upclose.

I topped it with provolone cheese. Amazing!

Sparkling Grape.

We enjoyed sparkling apple grape (the boy's favorite) with dinner to close out a wonderful weekend of celebration.

After dinner treat.

The boys enjoyed ice cream sundaes while Dad and I had coffee and a few of these yummy Biscoff cookies.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
