The Weight Loss Journey of Jessica

Jessica

Why is fitness or being fit important to you?
Being fit is important to me because I’ve faced some personal issues with my health that have caused me to take my health and fitness seriously. When I lost my mother in 2008, I was so stressed out that my blood pressure got up to 180/100. After being forced to take a medical leave from my job, I knew that I needed to change. I didn’t start immediately but slowly but surely I made changes. January 2013 I decided to change my entire life.

What or whom is the source of your motivation?
My source of motivation is my parents. They have inspired me to work hard for the things I want out of life. I constantly strive to be better because of the powerful legacy they have left for me.

What if anything has changed about your diet and/or eating habits?
My entire eating habits have changed. My portions are whole lot smaller. I eat small meals every few hours and I try to avoid fast foods and processed foods.

How has that change contributed to your weight loss?
By me just watching the types of foods I eat and cutting my portion sizes down, I’ve been able to lose 39 pounds this year!

What has been your greatest challenge or hurdle during your weight loss journey?
My greatest challenge has been to continue to stay motivated when there’s no one around cheering you on. Working out and losing weight isn’t always the most popular thing and sometimes you can feel like somewhat of an outcast. My greatest challenge thus far is just pushing myself to continue to stay motivated.

Do you have any advice for others trying to lose weight?
My advice would be to make sure you constantly connect with people through social media or at your gym who are trying to lose weight. Connecting with people can help you to stay motivated even when you don’t want to. Also it is very important to make up your mind first when wanting to lose weight. If your mind is truly made up there isn’t anything that can stop you.
