New Years Black-Eyed Peas

The family and I enjoyed some slow cooked black-eyed peas with jasmine rice yesterday for our New Year's dinner. I paired it with some fried tilapia and steamed spinach. It was my first time preparing black-eyed peas. I followed a fairly simple recipe I found on allrecipes.com. I tweaked a few things to suit the ingredients I had on hand. My 10 year old enjoyed them maybe because I called them "lucky beans". lol! My youngest wouldn't try them because he stated they (smelled funny). I can remember vividly when I was younger not liking them, but being made to eat them. Thankfully we only had them once a year, which was on New Year's.
