Hosting a Fabulous Dinner Party

5 Tips for Hosting a Fabulous Dinner Party

1.  Know your guests: You may have the most amazingly creative idea for your party, but you have to know your guests. Consider the ages, styles, and tastes of them all and try to find a nice happy medium where the guests will enjoy themselves and feel comfortable. A good mix of music can help as well as introducing people to get conversations flowing.

2.  The menu: I have been to a number parties where the host, regardless of the occasion or guest list, always makes the same foods. Although it’s great to do repeat items when you are known for a very delicious and popular dish, it is also good to have variety. If someone is welcomed into your home, they should truly feel welcome. You won’t be able to make an individualized menu for each person, but it is great to have some dishes that cater to for instance, children, vegetarians, and those with a common allergy like to tree nuts.

3.  Make it fun: The party shouldn’t be taken too seriously. You should have fun planning and preparing for it, as well as the execution of it. Do whatever you can to prepare ahead of time. Think about rearranging the furniture to better suit the number of guests, and if you have things that are delicate, maybe move those to another room just for the party. This can be especially helpful if guests are bringing children, or there will be a large number of people in a small space. You can have your carpet cleaner and stain remover on hand for any spills, because it may happen. Being prepared will help you relax and enjoy the party.

4.  Aim for simplicity: Do whatever is within your means. It’s not that asking for help is a bad thing, but it’s not that easy to rely on guests to bring items or to enlist help last minute. If you keep it simple and only do what you can, you won’t be as stressed! This will also ensure that the party runs more smoothly. If it is within budget and easier for you, you may have to have some dishes catered. On the other hand, it may be time to pull up some great recipes and show off your cooking skills! One of my favorite party dishes is my Divine Greek Quinoa and Seafood Salad. This dish is hearty, flavorful, and edgy. Many have yet to try quinoa, and those who have may be surprised to find it in a dish like this one.

5.  Look fabulous: You don’t have to wear anything complicated or with an extravagant price, but you should wear something that makes you look and feel great. An outfit where you can move about easily when needed to is ideal. I make it a point to have most of the food done about 90 minutes before the guests arrive so I have time to change. I have my working outfit and apron, and then my hostess apron that I wear to remove things from the oven, serve drinks, and set out appetizers. The hostess apron complements any outfit I might wear to a party! They are available online now at divinehostess.bigcartel.com.
