Dear Dr. King

Dear Dr. King,

First and foremost, I’d like to begin this letter by saying thank you! Thank you for demonstrating humility, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. If not for you, where would we be as a people and as a society. Although we've never met, and your life was cut short long before I was conceived I consider you part of my family! Your message resonates deeply within my spirit, and lingers on in my mind, heart, and soul.

The greatest gift one can give is hope, and you have given this gift to the entire world. You're a modern day Moses chosen to lead His people to the promise land amidst injustice and inequality. God will not place on us what we cannot handle, that’s why I believe He chose you to perform this task. He knew it was not in your character to quit, lose hope, or lose faith.

Your belief didn't waiver, you trusted in Him to lead you every step of the way. You spoke through His inspiration, you lead through His guidance, and you loved as He so loved the world. You demonstrated a quality only seen in those who are chosen! It'll be difficult to find another Martin Luther King Jr, because God selects the perfect servant to perform His works. Dr. King, you were that perfect servant!

Even if and when a shadow of doubt crept in the fabric of your being, your actions embodied the words of Joshua 1:9. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” God was with you, and you were well aware of His undeniable presence. You chose to stand on your convictions, and now you stand on the mountaintop God had revealed to you many years ago.

Thank you,

LaChristin Walke
